Fight for Children's Right

According to National Today, National Children's Month is celebrated in November in the Philippines every year. This month-long celebration aims to give Filipino children access to a healthy environment, good education, and healthcare. Dr. Jose Rizal, the Philippines’ national hero, once said that the youth is the future of the nation, and investing in children is key for the betterment of the next generation. This holiday also comes from a place of empathy. As a third-world country, most families struggle financially, and it’s the children who suffer the most. This month highlights the ways we can help and support them.

As we all know, there are lots of children who are suffering around the world right now. Poverty, sexual and physical abuse, bullying, etc. those are the hardships they are facing at this very moment. How can we help them get through this? How can we make these things a little less heavy for them?

There are plenty of things we can do; for example, helping them financially if we can, talk to them and encourage them to speak up about how they are being abused or bullied, making them feel that they are not alone, giving them emotional support and many more. As for the healthcare, we can help them get some regular check ups, we can help them by buying them vitamins and by donating money for their needs especially if their parents can’t provide it.

As also a child, I really have the desire to help other children get through their circumstances. I know I cannot help them financially yet, but I am willing to listen and give them emotional support. I can still help them in other ways. People have their own rights including the children, and it is a must that we give it to them; rights to have a safe and good environment, rights to have access in education, and rights to live free from poverty. We really must give children the best, ‘cause as Dr. Jose Rizal said, “ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan”.
