Labor Day is a day to celebrate the accomplishments of workers and to honor their contributions. It's also a time to recognize the sacrifices they make on behalf of our country. In the Philippines, Labor Day falls on May 1 every year. The holiday has been observed since May 1, 1903 under the Union Obrero Democratica de Filipinas (UODF), when Philippine Assembly passed a bill for its recognition year 1908. On May 1, 1974, former president Ferdinand E. Marcos, signed Presidential Decree No. 442 known as the Labor Code of the Philippines. From then on, it has been observed annually—a legacy that continues today under President Bongbong Marcos’ administration.

The first mass celebration of Labor Day in Manila took place in 1903, with more than 100,000 employees joining other government officials in a parade through Tondo's Plaza Moriones to Malacanang. In order to commemorate this event, several branches of government were encouraged to hold events throughout the country as part of their own celebrations.

Today, there are many ways Filipinos and their families can enjoy Labor Day festivities across the country. Besides parades and festivals held by various government agencies or civic groups like those mentioned above, local businesses often organize parties for their employees or customers
